Quotable Posters — Vol. 01
Overview
Quotable Posters is an experimental poster series focused on presenting quotes as standalone visual experiences. Each poster combines bold typography with textured, almost worn backgrounds to evoke emotion without over-explaining the message. The aim wasn’t to make the quote louder — but to make it linger.
This project is self-initiated and ongoing, with Vol. 01 serving as the foundation for the visual language and process.
Objective
-
To design a repeatable poster format centered around quotes
-
To explore emotional restraint in typography and layout
-
To balance strong hierarchy with subtle visual depth
-
To document a raw, analogue-to-digital creative process
Concept
Words already carry weight. The design shouldn’t compete with them.
Each poster treats the quote as the hero — large, direct, and unapologetic. The background textures draw inspiration from aged paper, faded paint, and organic imperfections, creating contrast against the clean, modern type.
The result is a visual tension between clarity and chaos — much like the emotions behind most meaningful quotes.
Process
The project begins offline.
Initial ideas are sketched by hand to define layout, hierarchy, and spacing. This helps strip the design down to its essentials before any digital polish is added. Once the structure feels right, the poster is recreated digitally, where texture, color grading, and typography are refined.
This slow workflow keeps the focus on intent rather than speed.
Design Decisions
-
Typography: Bold, sans-serif type to maintain clarity and authority
-
Color Palette: Muted greens and earthy tones to evoke calm, nostalgia, and imperfection
-
Texture: Grain and wear to give the posters a tactile, lived-in feel
-
Layout: Minimal elements to avoid distracting from the quote itself
Outcome
Vol. 01 establishes a visual system that can evolve with future releases while staying emotionally consistent. The posters are designed to work both digitally and in print, and to feel timeless rather than trend-driven.
This project reflects my interest in emotionally led design — where visuals don’t shout, but stay with you.
